BALERNO BOWLING CLUB
Looking at the Ladies results in the Club competitions, due tribute has already been paid to the Champion, Doris Kergan and the Runner Up Alison Clark.
Continuing, the Rena Mason trophy was won by Morag Moffat with Liz Rogers as Runner up. Morag also took the 4 bowl pairs partnering Ruth Vasey against Elspeth Oliver and Frances Burns. The 2 bowl pairs were won by Mabel Jackson and Alison Clark
In the 2 bowl singles Emma Crichton beat Pat Williams to take the title.
The Triples were won by Margaret Turner, Isabel Howes and Helen Girdler with Elspeth Oliver, Pat Williams and Emma Crichton as Runners Up. Anne Smith, Eleanor Gladwin, Alison Clark and Emma Crichton won the Rink.
May Brown won the Jenny Kitchen 1st timers trophy and Alison Clark the Quaich. Finally, the Cathy Gordon Trophy was won by the Triple of Essie Stoddart, Ann Blake and Morag Moffat. So far as I know it was a conventional trophy rather than one of Cathy’s superb Apple Pies. If she were to donate one of them for a Mens competition my name would be first on the list!
Last month it was stated inadvertently that Alan Nicholls had won the 4 bowl Pairs. In fact Alan won the 4 bowl Singles, the Geddes trophy, by beating David McNeill. As correctly reported, it was David who won the 4 bowl Pairs, partnering Hamish McNeil and beating Derek Robb and Jim Begg.
Newer members may not know that Rena Mason, whose memorial trophy was won by Morag Moffat, was the first President of the Ladies Section when it was formed in the mid sixties. Surprisingly, the 1986 Centenary booklet makes no mention of the Ladies section even though it had been in existence for some 20 years! Perhaps it is not so surprising when you read the Constitution for 1986 which states quite bluntly that ” Lady members shall be regulated by the Council {Committee} with no voting rights or voice in the management of the Club.” Changed days indeed!
Merry Christmas everyone.
