BALERNO BOWLING CLUB
There was a good attendance at the Annual General Meeting of
the Club on Tuesday 13th December. One of the highest of recent
years.
President Bill Stark reported that the Club was in a healthier
position than it was at the time of the Special General Meeting
last January. Decisions taken at that time to increase subscriptions
and to carefully monitor expenditure had borne fruit. Reviewing
expenditure, he made specific mention of the redecoration of the
upstairs lounge, carried out voluntarily by David Lees and the
refurbishment of the downstairs kitchen. The latter enabled the
Ladies section to conduct more in-house catering thus saving the
cost of outside caterers. He concluded by thanking Committee members
for their support throughout the year, paying tribute to those
who were leaving office particularly the Lady President, May Brown.
In moving the Adoption of the Accounts, Treasurer David Henry
gave a very clear and concise overview of the Balance Sheet. It
showed a pleasing increase in Income over Expenditure. An increase
in Social Memberships and profits from social activities was encouraging
but a fall in Bowling Membership gave continuing cause for concern.
David answered a number of questions as to the detail of expenditure.
The only mildly contentious matter concerned the reduction in
bowling trophies provided for competition within the Senior Section.
Explanations were given but it is possible that this subject might
be raised again on another occassion.
Green Ranger, Tom Murray, attracted a number of compliments on
the state of the Green. He was optimistic about the future and
paid tribute to the assistance he had received from Lawrie McMorran,
Robin Murdoch and Frank Millan.
The meeting approved a proposal that this year’s subscriptions
remain at last year’s levels. In addition, last season’s
experiment of not charging fees from Junior Members, under age
16, and only half the Adult Member’s subscription from those
aged 30 and younger, had proved successful. It would therefore
be continued for the coming season. Members are reminded that
all subscriptions are payable on or before the 1st April and that
no invoices or reminders will be issued.
President, Bill Stark, Vice President Hugh Watt and Treasurer,
David Henry were re-elected unopposed. Acting Secretary, Charlie
Husband, was formally elected to the post and Frank Millan becomes
Match Secretary. The new Lady President will be appointed later.
Past Social Secretary, Jim Vaisy, rejoins the Committee.
